To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the kids made Leprechaun traps to hopefully catch one of the tiny, sneaky, messy Leprechauns that come out this time of year looking for some gold. I asked Seth what kind of trap he'd like to make. At first he wanted a cage to drop on top of the Leprechaun, but since we couldn't come up with a way to design that (I'm not an engineer) we thought about a way to make him fall into something. We headed to the Wal-Marts craft section and with help from Daddy, Seth picked out some gold sequins, gold glitter, some sticks to make a ladder and a cup to catch the Leprechaun.
This is Seth's final product. Of course, I helped him with wrapping the box, holding some things in place while he glued, and cutting the wood for the ladder, but Seth did the majority of the decorating and choosing what we used where.
Garrett also wanted in on the action and made her own trap. Of course she didn't have to take hers to school, so she didn't have a box to go along with it. Here is her trap:
While neither of them caught an actual leprechaun, the Leprechauns did visit their schools. The Leprechaun at Seth's school made a mess in the classroom and left a note saying he didn't get caught, but better luck next year! The one that visited Garrett's school left green footprints all over the floor! The kids had fun making their traps. It will be fun to see what they come up with next year.

What fun ideas for school. I'm not sure if my kids are doing anything at school for St. Patricks Day. I guess I'll find out when they get home. I did turn some of their food green today though. Very creative traps. I love them. Tell the kids they did a great job.
At first I totally thought you came up with this idea on your own. Very clever, I'm glad that they had fun making the traps. I just love them.
Seth's was a school assignment. It was fun seeing what other kids came up with, too.
I had no idea people did this, but it is SO cute!! Katie, I love the idea and am totally stealing it when I have kids. Your kids are so creative, adorable!
Those are some great traps. Some of the things they think of for school projects now are great. Skylar and Gabe's daycare had Leprechaun footprints left while they were napping today.
What an adorable idea! Totally going to copy that next year!
Way to go Mom and Dad...and kids!!!
Oh my gosh Katie your kids are so big and cute. I can't believe how fast they grow. By the way this is Amber Gibson
Honestly - I forgot it was St Patrick's day until I saw your facebook status update that day. Luckily I was working from home so all pinches I received were very welcome ;-)
